The Eclipse of the Estate d’Yusmith

Augest 21 2017 came and so did the eclipse. It was not delayed and arrived on schedule at the Estate d’ Yusmith at 1:28 CDT. Since neither Mary nor I have been on site for a full eclipse before we both will say it is something that you should do at least once if not more. Where we were totality lasted only about 1 min. 10 sec but add to that the 1 or 2 minutes before and after where the earth appears only in pre and post totality conditions makes for 3 to 4 minutes that can only be experienced, if you are lucky, once in a lifetime or maybe twice. (Short of traveling all over the world)

The video below does not reflect the greatness of the eclipse, you had to be here but you will get the general idea.

So now that you know how great this is the next one that could be watched comes on April 8 2024 and as you can see on the map below it passes over Portland Indiana at about 3:10 io the afternoon. And while Indiana in early April can be rather iffy for a clear sky we do know people there and its not a difficult drive.

Back to Zhuhai

We made it through our 1 1/2 weeks in Wuhu without catching The Ebola or The Zika which seems to happen most times we go there. Yoki came and spent a few days with us and the last few days there we went first to Yellow Mountain (Huangshan Mountian) planning to spend the day walking (actually climbing up and down never ending steps) but it was raining and completely fogged in with zero visibility.

At the Welcom Tree, best visibility we had all day

So we left the mountain and just wasted the rest of the day in the village.

The next day it was a trip about an hour up the road to Hongcun an ancient (800 year old) village. Their claim to fame, other than being 800 years old, is to be where much of the movie Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, Sleeping Panda was filmed and that it is built in the shape of an ox, which you cannot tell while there. There is the bridge that it seems everyone wants to stand on. (we didn’t)

In the center of the village is a small pond that some head guy had dug a long time ago to use for putting out fires,  washing dishes, bathing and other stuff.

The next day we drove the 4 hours back to Wuhu and then the next day flew back to Zhuhai where we will stay until Thursday afternoon and then the 3 of us will move on to Hong Kong where Mary and Yoki will stay until probably Sunday but I will fly out for home on Saturday. Hong Kong has the H3N2 flu going on this year. Hope I don’t get the H3N2ebolazika.
