Sometimes harmonica music is what you need to get the blood rolling.

Sometimes in the middle of the afternoon when your blood gets sluggish harmonica music works just as well as the 5 hour energy drink they advertise on TV. I stumbled across this clip while looking for something else and found it invigorating. (that’s a word I’ve never typed before). This is from a 1955 TV show that stared Herb Shriner. I knew  that I knew that name and remembered he had something to do with Indiana. I looked him up and found that he grew up in Fort Wayne and had radio shows in the 40’s and  TV in the early 50’s. He was a Will Rogers style humorist and harmonica player. I do remember the name around the house as a kid and probably from the TV show and the fact he was from Indiana. So put on your toe tapping shoes and watch this.

Did you notice that Herb Shriner did not have an accent. That led to a bunch of foreign harmonica groups. This one is  a famous Portuguese trio. ROCK AND ROLL

It seems that the 30’s and 40’s were the peak of the big time harmonica bands with these guys being one of the more famous. I dare you to watch this without getting up and jumpin and jivein.

Here are some German guys dressed up in their idea of cowboy uniforms doing Orange Blossom Special. Actually quite good, just dumb looking especially the guy that looks like Don Knots.

If it is now afternoon and you just watched all of  these I bet you feel better than after drinking a gallon of the 5 hour stuff.
While doing this I ran across the opening of the Herb Shriner show and now I remember why I remember it. See below and see if you can guess why a 5 year old would remember the show.

He was kind of the Conan O’Brian of his day.

Now go back to work.
